Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is visiting Vienna
The president of the Confederation Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is going to Vienna on Friday for a business visit. She will be meeting the Austrian president Heinz Fischer and the chancellor Werner Faymann.
The Federal Department of Finance confirmed this information to the Swiss News Agency, but did not wish to give any additional information. The head of the Federal Department of Finance and the Austrian minister of finances Maria Fekter signed in April an agreement to introduce a tax to regularise Austrian money invested in Switzerland as well as taxation at source for returns on capital. Vienna hopes that this agreement will yield a billion euros in 2013. However, the text is criticised by the Austrian opposition, who claims that "the State is legitimising money laundering". The federal chambers will debate next week the agreements with Austria, Germany and Great Britain. Switzerland would like to pursue with Greece and Italy. Mrs Widmer-Schlumpf is to go to Rome on the 12th of June to meet the Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti. (sda)
