Jet Aviation to cut jobs in Basel
The business aviation company Jet Aviation is to restructure its business in Basel with the loss of around 250 permanent jobs by the end of the year.
The company, based at Kloten airport, said in a statement on Tuesday the reorganisation was aimed at improving competitiveness. Consultations were underway with social partners, and the final headcount reduction would be communicated on 22 June, the company said. Jet Aviation said it was creating two independently managed organisations for cabin interior completions and maintenance at its Basel location. The new units are expected to continue to employ around 1,000 workers.
The company said the restructuring was largely driven by the difficult economic environment, with an industry-wide slowdown. It also blamed the strong Swiss franc and the unexpected cancellation of a project. Jet Aviation had announced last September that it was letting 300 workers go. This followed redundancies in 2009 and 2010. (sda)
