Swiss art at Sotheby's in Zurich: Anker, Hodler, Giacometti
Sotheby's Swiss art spring auction centers on Albert Anker, Ferdinand Hodler and Giovanni Giacometti. 97 works of art with a total estimated value of CHF 9 million are available.
On sale are eleven works by Albert Anker, among them the oil painting "School Boy" (1875) with an estimated value of CHF 1.23 to 1.67 million, "Portrait of a Girl" from 1885 (CHF 1.2 to 1.8 million) and "Sleeping Girl on a Wooden Bench" from 1900 (CHF 1 to 1.5 million).
The oil painting "Valle Fiorita" (1914) by Giovanni Giacometti shows the peak of his technical skills, writes Sotheby's in its preview to the auction. Sotheby's estimates the value of the work at CHF 1.2 to 1.8 million. The autumnal landscape "Paesaggio d'autunno" by the artist from Bergell should sell at CHF 1 to 1.5 million.
Two works by Ferdinand Hodler will be auctioned: the oil painting "Waterfall in Savoy" (CHF 400,000 to 600'000) and the single figure sketch "View into Infinity".
There will also be works by Cuno Amiet, Max Sulzbachner and Marius Bourgeaud, as well as from artists from the school of Savièse, like Ernest Biéler. (sda)
