Switzerland fail to qualify for Eurovision final
Russian grandmothers Buranovskiye Babushki qualified, as did hyperactive Irish twins Jedward, but there is no room for Switzerland in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku on Saturday.
Sinplus - brothers Gabriel and Ivan Broggini from Losone - failed to win enough points with their rock number «Unbreakable». In recent years Switzerland has been regularly eliminated in the qualifying round of the song competition. Last year was the exception when Anna Rossinelli made it to the final - only to come last.
Ten acts were selected on Tuesday evening to go through to the final: Ireland, Russia, Albania, Greece, Iceland, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Cyprus and Denmark. They will compete with the winners of the other semifinal plus the big Eurovision contributers, including Britain and Germany, in Saturday's final. Between 2007 and 2010 big Swiss names including the Lovebugs and DJ Bobo tried and failed to qualify for the final of Europe's annual televised song contest. (sda)
