UBS and CS favour Mitt Romney over Obama
The top managers at big Swiss banks UBS and Credit Suisse appear to be backing Republican candidate Mitt Romney over Barack Obama in the US presidential election race.
American managers with CS have contributed around $316,100 to the Republican frontrunner Romney. Donations to President Obama's campaign amount to a mere $18,100. The figures from the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) in Washington were printed in the St Galler Tagblatt newspaper on Wednesday.
UBS managers, for their part, have so far contributed $182,500 to Romney's fund and $58,700 to Obama's war chest. In the last presidential election, Obama received far more generous support, receiving more than $300,000 from CS and $532,000 from UBS.
CRP director Sheila Krumholz told World Radio Switzerland on Monday that the preference for Romney was quite clear. The Republican had support from the finance world as he was expected to be more sympathetic towards their business interests.
